Introduction

In this lesson, students create a digital video production about the BILL OF RIGHTS. Working in small groups, they develop a story that illustrates the concepts within one amendment. Students use a video camera and desktop video editing software to produce a short movie of their story.

Objectives

  • Identify and explain any admendments within the Bill of Rights.
  • Develop a story that illustrates the concepts within the amendment
  • Storyboard a movie and film it using a digital video camera
  • Edit and produce a digital video using desktop video editing software
  • Incorporate text, audio, and transitions into the video
  • Understand and comply with Acceptable Use Policy (AUP)
  • Use online help
  • Use vocabulary appropriately

Prerequisites

  • Experience using a digital video camera
  • Go through the Video Editing Tutorial at Connected Tech
  • Watch "ALL" of the four videos: CHANNEL ONE VIDEOS 

Time Estimate

Four to five 45-minute class periods

Materials

  • Digital video camera
  • Speakers or headphones
  • Video editing software
  • Large-screen display or television

Preparation

  • Preview the student lesson, including Web sites and Helpful Tips.
  • Decide how you will break students into small groups, and assign each group an amendment.
  • Prepare a system for sharing or checking out video equipment. If there are rules for using the cameras, charging batteries, or labeling tapes, make sure they are clearly explained or posted for students to read.
